About Richter Scale Basketball

Richter Scale Basketball is committed to providing basketball skills training to all interested players, regardless of age or skill level.  Coach Grant Richter has developed an affordable program that uses a proper progression of skill to develop players of all skill levels from beginners to elite athletes.  

Coach Richter is introducing Personal Professional Coaching services starting in the summer of 2021, and will continue to deliver clinics throughout the year at Sport For Life Center. E-mail Coach Richter at richterscalebbal@gmail.com for details.

MEET THE COACH

GRANT RICHTER

Grant Richter has coached basketball in the province of Manitoba since 1983.  Coach Richter has coached all levels including grassroots, Winnipeg Minor Basketball, Rising Stars League, Junior High, High School, College (MCAC), University (CIS), and professional (IBA).


In 19 years coaching at the high school level (Transcona Collegiate, Murdoch Mackay, University of Winnipeg Collegiate) he compiled a record of 372 wins vs. 109 losses.  While at the University of Winnipeg in his role as Director of Athletic Program Development, Grant developed the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen programs that currently compete in the Manitoba Colleges Athletics Conference.   Grant had successful stints coaching the University of Winnipeg Inner City Jr. Wesmen  boy’s, and the University of Winnipeg College Wesmen Men’s basketball programs.  

In the ’90s Coach Richter served as an assistant coach with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.  In 1996, Grant joined the Winnipeg Cyclone as an assistant coach and was promoted to head coach in 2000.  In his time with the Cyclone, Grant had the benefit of being mentored by legendary coach Bill Klucas and NBA legend Darryl Dawkins.


From 2014 to 2017 Coach Richter served as an assistant coach with the University of Manitoba Bison and was the U17 Team Manitoba Canada Games Head Coach from 2016-2017.

Coach Richter currently coaches his 13-14 Girls WMBA basketball team out of Oxford Heights Community Club.  His education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree (Kinesiology) from the University of Winnipeg, and a Masters of Education degree (Sport Coaching) from the University of Victoria.  Grant has also completed his NCCP level 4 at the National Coaching Institute.

DATES AND RATES

Coach Richter will be holding a number of 1-hour shooting and skills clinics at Sport Manitoba throughout 2021 for boys and girls ages 8-17. Clinics will focus on proper shooting form and feature shooting competitions for all participants. 

Option #1- Semi-private, distanced small cohort training. 1player per basket (Max. 6 players per group) $20.00 per session.

Option #2- 2 players per basket, maximum of 12 players per session. $15.00 per session.
